 Background and Objectives

The ESG Conference is held every 2 years in a different host country. The scope of this conference is to promote glass science and technology and, in particular, to enhance interaction among experts working on diverse areas such as glass manufacturing, glass archaeology, art and environmental issues, as well as glass science and applications. The previous meeting was held June 2-6, 2002 in Montpellier, France. The 7th ESG Conference will be held in Athens, Greece, from the 25th to the 28th of April, 2004.

 Proceedings

Papers presented at the Conference by registered participants will be subjected to regular review and published in special issues of the Physics and Chemistry of Glasses and Glass Technology of the Society of Glass Technology (UK). Manuscript preparation instructions will be communicated to authors after abstract acceptance. Publication is expected in 2005. After publication, a softbound volume of the combined conference proceedings will be delivered to each registered participant, dispatched from the UK. In addition, a bound book of abstracts will be delivered to each participant at the conference site.



 Language

English will be the official language of the Conference. No simultaneous translation will be provided.



 Accommodation

The conference will be help at the METROPOLITAN HOTEL offering all state-of-the-art accomodation and conference facilities. The hotel is situated in Paleo Faliro, an attractive residential suburb of Athens close to the seafront.

Allow one blank line and continue with author's names, grouped by affiliation, in Times New Roman, font 12, centered, single spaced. Corresponding author must be underlined. Affiliation with full postal address in next line should follow. Use Times New Roman, italics, font 12, centered, single-spaced. Corresponding author's e-mail address should be included in the next line in plain centered text. Allow two blank lines.  Receipt and acceptance conditions

Receipt of abstracts will be notified to the corresponding authors after submission.

Acceptance of abstract will be notified to the corresponding authors shortly after reviewing. Instructions for full paper preparation will be forwarded.

Only papers submitted according to the instructions given will be accepted and no corrections are allowed after submission.

The number of papers presented by a research group must be equal to the number of registered members (authors) of the group.

In case of declination of the abstract and if an already registered author may not wish to participate in the conference, the registration fees will be refunded according to the herein stated policy.

 Payment conditions

A deposit of one night accommodation is required to confirm requested Accommodation. Full payment is required no later than 23/03/04.

 How to Reach

Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (www.aia.gr) is the main air-gate to Athens and Greece.

The conference location and hotels can be conveniently reached by regular BUS SERVICE (www.oasa.gr).

BUS E95 is direct to SYNTAGMA Square (Parliament Square). Ticket is priced (*) at 2.90 euro and can be bought at the bus station just outside the arrival lounge. It is valid for one trip from/to the airport (ONLY) and for all consequent trips by all transport means in Athens city for 24hrs from validation.

BUS E94 (and also E95) drives to the "ETHNIKI AMYNA" METRO (www.ametro.gr) station. USING THE SAME TICKET, passengers may change to METRO system, following direction to "MONASTIRAKI" and EXIT at SYNTAGMA Square. This is advisable during rush hours.

METROPOLITAN HOTEL is located at 385 Syngrou Avenue (5 Km. from Syntagma Square).

BUSES with numbers A2, B2, and 126 from SYNTAGMA Square drive via Syngrou avenue. They have stops next to the Metropolitan hotel, which is easily visible on the left hand side of the Syngrou Avenue directed downhill towards the seafront. Pedestrian Passages are also provided to cross the avenue if required. No additionasl fare is required coming from the airport. The single trip bus fare is 0.45 euro.

AMALIA HOTEL, Amalias Ave. and Xenofondos Str., and ARETHOUSA HOTEL, Nikis Str. and Metropoleos Str., are both located next to the SYNTAGMA Square and can be reached immediately on foot.

Taxi service is found easily at the airport and all central points. Total price to be paid for all destinations is in the range of 20 euro to 30 euro depending on the traffic and baggage. Surcharges applying: Airport (2 euro), Toll (1.80 euro) and 0.30 euro/baggage (over 10 kgr). All taxis operate using the taximeter counting system which usually adds on surcharges and displays the total trip value. Note that only intercity taxi fare is allowed by means of verbal agreement. Radio Taxi services may be called at tel. 18300 or other numbers.
